Poterium Sanguisorba Var. Guestphalicum
Bloodroot, scientifically known as Poterium sanguisorba var. guestphalicum, is a striking perennial plant native to eastern North America. It is recognized for its distinctive red-orange sap and its early spring blooms of white flowers. The plant thrives in moist, shady woodlands and is often found in the understory of forested areas. Its common name comes from the reddish liquid that oozes from its roots when broken. Bloodroot has been used traditionally by indigenous peoples for medicinal purposes and is also valued in ecological restoration projects.
