Pilostyles Pringlei

Pilostyles mistletoe, scientifically known as Pilostyles pringlei, is a parasitic plant found primarily in the tropical regions of Central and South America. This unique species lacks chlorophyll and relies entirely on its host for nutrients, making it one of the most specialized plants in the mistletoe family. Its structure is simplified, with reduced leaves and a highly modified stem that allows it to attach firmly to its host. Despite its parasitic nature, Pilostyles pringlei plays a role in the ecological balance by influencing the growth and distribution of its host trees. Due to habitat loss and limited study, this rare plant remains poorly understood and vulnerable to extinction.
