Ostrya Virginiana
Ostrya virginiana, commonly known as the eastern hop-hornbeam, is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree native to eastern North America. It is characterized by its dense, rounded crown and smooth, gray bark that develops deep fissures with age. The tree produces small, yellowish-green flowers in catkins, followed by winged seeds that are dispersed by the wind. It thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is often found in forest understories. This hardy and adaptable species plays an important role in local ecosystems and has been used traditionally by indigenous peoples for various purposes.
