Monteverdia Urquiolae
Urquillo's monteverdia, scientifically known as Monteverdia urquiolae, is a rare and unique flowering plant native to the cloud forests of Ecuador. This species belongs to the Rubiaceae family, which includes over 12,000 species of shrubs and trees worldwide. Its striking appearance, featuring vibrant pink and white flowers, makes it a standout among its botanical relatives. The plant is named in honor of the botanist who first documented it, Dr. Luis Urquillo. Due to its limited habitat and threats from deforestation, Urquillo's monteverdia is considered critically endangered and requires urgent conservation efforts.
