Anemone Vesicatoria

Bleeding crocus, scientifically known as Anemone vesicatoria, is a striking plant native to the mountainous regions of Europe. Its vivid purple flowers, which bloom in early spring, are accompanied by a unique feature: a reddish liquid that oozes from the stem, giving it its dramatic common name. This plant has a long history of use in traditional medicine and folklore, often associated with themes of sorrow and transformation. Despite its ominous reputation, it is also admired for its beauty and ecological role in alpine environments. However, due to habitat loss and over-collection, it is now considered a rare and endangered species.
